A protest was taken out under the banner of Anjuman e Haideri, as part of which protestors demanded unfurling of the tricolour on Independence Day at Shah e Mardan Dargah, which is situated on disputed land.

Muslim protesters were seen carrying national flags while marching towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence to demand their right to hoist the tricolour.

One of the protestors, while speaking to media here, asserted that nobody could stop celebrations at the Dargah on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15.

"We will raise our national flag at Dargah, come what may," he noted.

The dispute is over the demarcation of Waqf land around the Dargah Shah e Mardan. In 2005, Anjuman e Haideri had approached the High Court saying the land around the Dargah belonged to the Waqf board but was taken over by the government.

Anjuman-e-Haideri, the management committee of the Dargah and Karbala, Jorbagh, organised the protest march.
