Nitish Kumar, who was sworn-in as the Bihar Chief Minister on Sunday, said that his priority is to work for the state's development.

Nitish said that he would carry forward with his mission of special emphasis on governance.

"We would continue to work with our road map for development of Bihar," he added.

Nitish emphasized that he looks forward to the Centre's assistance for development of Bihar.

"We have some expectations from the Central Government and we will work with the Centre for the interest of Bihar," he added.

The senior Janata Dal (United) leader, however, said that there may be some differences on the political front.

"Both the state government and the Centre are accountable. The Centre is accountable to the entire country. And I believe that the development should be for the entire country, various states. Development should not be one-way, there should be more focus on states that are backward," he added.

Nitish, who had earlier on Friday described his decision to quit office last year as 'a mistake', further said that he has taken his new responsibility with full conscience.

"I had left but the people were not happy with my decision. The people had given me a mandate and imposed their trust on me. I had left my post in between but I have realized that nobody was happy was with my decision. So, I had to take this responsibility yet again," he added.

Nitish thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi for congratulating him.

"Congress president Sonia Gandhiji could not come but she sent a letter through Motilal Vora and extended her congratulations, I thank her," he said.

He also thanked the leaders of various political parties, including outgoing Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, for attending his swearing-in-ceremony.

Nitish, who was sworn in as the Bihar Chief Minister for the fourth time, was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi. Twenty two JD (U) legislators, including three women, were also sworn in as Cabinet Ministers.

Nitish, who was invited to form a new government by the Governor after Manjhi's resignation ahead of the trust vote on Friday, has been asked to prove his majority in the Bihar Assembly by March 16.

Nitish had stepped down as the chief minister on May 17 last year after his party fared poorly in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, winning just two seats.

Manjhi, who was chosen to replace him, was asked to step aside to allow the return of his former boss as the chief minister as the party campaigns for the Bihar election due later this year.

Manjhi, however, did not oblige and was expelled by the party. Manjhi later sought a trust vote but quit abruptly when it was clear that he would not win.
