Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal is coming close to reclaiming his World No.1 ranking and if he reaches the final of the China Open, where he is the 2nd seed, he would achieve the feat even if the current No.1 Novak Djokovic wins the title.

According to The Independent, since returning in February from a seven-month injury lay-off, Nadal has lost only three matches and won 10 titles.

With no ranking points to defend between now and the ATP World Tour finals in London next month, the 27-year-old Spaniard looks a strong favourite to climb above the Serb, the report said.

However, Nadal said that it was going to be very tough and he was still hoping to have his chance in this tournament or in the next few weeks.
