Former world number one Rafael Nadal has reportedly refused to play with controversial Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios in a doubles match at John McEnroe's charity event.
Eight-seeded Nadal instead played a singles match against Lleyton Hewitt of Australia.
The 29-year-old said that Kyrgios' insulting remark on Stanislas Wawrinka was completely unnecessary, news.com.au reports.

McEnroe said Kyrgios should look to Nadal as the standard for behaviour in the sport.
Earlier, Kyrgios was handed a suspended ban and a fine by the ATP Tour for his remark against Wawrinka during their recent Rogers Cup match in Montreal.
