Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal's uncle and coach has criticized his attitude after the 12-time Grand Slam champion suffered a shock first round exit from Wimbledon on Monday.

The Spaniard lost to world no.135 Steve Darcis 7-6, 7-6, 6-4, to suffer his first ever defeat in the first round of a Grand Slam, Sport24 reports.

Stating that all his previous victories this year had come on clay, Toni Nadal expressed his fears over Nadal's ability to reproduce the same form on grass, adding that it was the attitude that made him drop his intensity after going very well.

According to the report, the situation was similar for Nadal last year when he had lost to Lukas Rosol in the second round at Wimbledon.

The Spanish player has now returned to his homeland before focus shifts to the hard court season ahead of the US Open in September, although the report said that fans, however, will get a chance to see Nadal on his favorite surface of clay once again this year, in Stuttgart or Hamburg in July.

Nadal had played some wonderful tennis this year after his return from a career-crushing knee injury, winning seven titles and reaching two finals on the way.
