Nadella, Guyana President among 15 NRIs to be awarded 'Pravasi Bhartiya Samman'

Fifteen prominent non-resident Indians (NRIs), including Microsoft CEO Satyanarayan Nadella and Guyana President Donald Rabindernauth Ramaotar are likely to receive Pravasi Bhartiya Samman awards for their contribution in various fields on the last day of the Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas today.

Vice President Hamid Ansari will deliver the valedictory address and present the awards to the distinguished luminaries at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

Among the others who will receive the award are Mala Mehta, Rajaram Sanjaya, Kanwaljit Singh Bakhshi, Rajmal Parakh, Duraikannu Karunakaran, Essop Goolam Pahad, Shah Bharatkumar Jayantilal, Ashraf Palarkunnummal, Mahendra Nanji Mehta, Professor Nathu Ram Puri, Dr Lulla Kamlesh and Dr Nandini Tandon.

 

An External Affairs Ministry release said that Mala Mehta is getting the award for her contribution to Hindi language. President Ramaotar has will be awarded for his work for the Indian diaspora in Guyana. Rajaram Sanjaya, an India-born Mexico scientist, is winner of the '2014 World Food Prize' for developing 480 wheat varieties that have been released in 51 countries. Kanwaljit Singh Bakhshi is a Member of Parliament from New Zealand and is also known for work he had done for the Indian diaspora.
