Suspected militants from Nagaland are being blamed for the tense atmosphere prevailing in Assam's border Golaghat District.

Though security forces are working to prevent any further violence, on November 13, armed miscreants from Nagaland opened fire on a group of farmers in Ratanpur Village.

One person was killed and three others were injured. Six people are still reported to be missing.

The police suspects Nagaland based NSCN (IM) outfit to be behind the attack.

"We have found that locals from Nagaland were not involved in the attack. We suspect that cadres of Naga militant group, NSCN, had fired at the villagers. Senior police officers are there in the area and investigation is going on," Numol Mahoto, Additional SP, Golaghat.

There have been several incidents of violence along the Assam-Nagaland border in the recent past.

In August, some miscreants from Nagaland had raided villages along the inter-state border, torched houses and gunned down tribal villagers from Assam.

Over a dozen people were killed and around 10,000 people were displaced.

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also held three separate meetings with chief ministers of Assam and Nagaland in New Delhi to find an early solution to border dispute and maintain peace.
