A taekwondo team from Nagaland delivered a commendable performance at an event held in South Korea recently.

The team won one gold, one silver and ten bronze medals in the World Taekwondo Hanmadang, which was held in Pohang City between August 21 and 24.

The team from 'Faith-in-Action Taekwondo Academy' in Dimapur emerged as the world champions in the Team Aerobic Competition and became the first team from India to win an international team event after 40 years.

The team represented India under the banner of Taekwondo Board of India

"Faith in Action team from Nagaland is the first team from India that has represented at an international competition like the world championship in South Korea," said Deep Kumar, the team's coach.

"Our team is the only team that has won gold medal in taekwondo aerobic event. In the last 40 years there was no medal and this is the first time that Nagaland from India has represented at international level and won a medal. It is a big achievement for us," Kumar added.

The 'Faith-in-Action Taekwondo Academy', which was established in 2008, has been encouraging youngsters to take up martial arts and stay away from unhealthy practices like intake of drugs.

The students of this academy have won medals at various regional and national competitions.
