Naidu to inaugurate Urban Mobility India conference in Gujarat today

Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Poverty Alleviation Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate a four day Urban Mobility India conference at Gandhinagar in Gujarat today, where the theme is 'Planning Mobility for City's sustainability'.

The conference has been organized jointly by Ministry of Urban Development and Gujarat Government from 8th to 11th November at Mahatma Mandir.

Various issues pertaining to atmospheric pollution, traffic congestion due to rising number of vehicles in the cities and various aspects of sustainable and environment friendly urban transport management will be discussed in this conference.

Giving details about the conference, the Director of Urban Transport in the Union Ministry of Urban Development R.K. Singh said that this is for the first time the conference has been organized outside Delhi.

 

Addressing the press conference at Ahmedabad yesterday, Singh said that around 1000 mayors and councilors from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa and Rajsthan will participate in the conference to discuss pedestrian friendly roads and smart parking solutions.

About 2500 delegates will discuss climate friendly urban transport systems in the conference. Replying to the media query,Singh said that issue of Delhi pollution is likely to be discussed during the conference.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will remain present during the inaugural session along with other dignitaries.

Minister of State Shri Rao Indrejit Singh will present the awards of excellence in Urban Transport and Urban Mobility on the valedictory session to be held on 11th November.

Naidu will also attend Swachh Bharat Mission Programme in Ahmedabad and chair the review meeting of flagship schemes of urban development and housing & urban poverty alleviation to be held in Gandhinagar during his one day tour.
