Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday assured that the policemen injured in the Nalgonda encounter would be provided all possible medical support from the Centre.

"This is a shocking incident where two people were killed in an encounter. One constable died, one sub inspector is fighting for his life and one inspector is injured. I came here to meet them and inquire about their condition. Doctors are doing their best," Naidu told ANI.

"They showed the needed courage and conviction to take on these people. Whatever additional medical support is required, the Government of India is ready to do it. I salute the police of Telangana for the courage they have shown," he added.

Naidu also termed the incident an 'eye-opener', calling for national-level coordination between the states.

"This is an issue which should be an eye opener, because in the recent past, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been peaceful. Earlier, there was a serious Maoist problem and had incidents due to the SIMI," he added.

"These people seem to have escaped from the Kandhar jail in Madhya Pradesh. My advice to the Telangana government is that these people seem to have come from outside, then it requires national-level coordination," he added.

A constable and two criminals were killed in an encounter in the Nalgonda district of Telangana early Saturday morning.

The police had been chasing the criminals following an encounter on Thursday, which had led to deaths of a constable and homeguard while leaving two others injured.
