Napier ODI abandoned due to wet outfield

ANI Napier [New Zealand]

The second one-day international between New Zealand and Australia on Thursday abandoned without a ball being bowled after persistence rain left the outfield too wet to play at McLean Park in Napier.

After some five inspections of the wet outfield, umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Chris Brown eventually called off the game as there was no sun to dry the waterlogged outfield.

New Zealand are currently leading the three-match Chappell-Hadlee series 1-0 following their narrow six-run win in the opening ODI at Eden Park, Auckland.

The series will now be decided in the third and final match slated to be held in Hamilton on Sunday.

A victory in the Hamilton ODI would see the Kane Williamson-led side retain the trophy which they lost in a 3-0 whitewash in Australia in early December.
