West Indies ace off-spinner Sunil Narine has backed out of the World Cup squad, citing that he needs more time to rectify his bowling action.

The off-spin wizard has undergone intense remedial work after being suspended from last year's Champions League Twenty20 due to an illegal action.

Narine said that whilst he was very happy with the progress made to date with his action, he was withdrawing from the World Cup, Sport24 reported.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has reportedly learned that the off-spinner exceeded the 15-degree flexion allowance.

Narine further said that going into the World Cup was a little too much too soon and, and after consulting the WICB, they have decided to delay his return to international cricket until he was 100 percent confident in all that he does, the report added.

Backing Narine decision to withdraw from the squad, the Board said that to risk his exposure to the intensity of the Cricket World Cup would be both unfair to him and the West Indies squad.
