National toll free helpline launched to help alcoholic and drug dependent persons

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot today launched a National Toll Free Helpline (1800-11-0031) to assist alcoholic and drug dependent persons.

Speaking after the launch, Gehlot said that in order to mitigate the problems of drug and alcohol abuse and create public awareness, his department is undertaking various measures from time to time.

He also called up the toll free helpline and inquired about the rehabilitation of drug addiction in the states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

The Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry is the nodal ministry for drug demand reduction and rehabilitation of victims of alcoholism and drug abuse.

This helpline has been made with technical support from M/s TCIL, a Government of India undertaking.

 

Presently, this helpline will operate from 9.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.

It will be upgraded to 24x7, based on the number of calls and the response it attracts.
