Native Instruments, the company behind the Traktor DJ software, has launched a new music format designed for creative mixing and DJs.

According to The Next Web, the format called Stems allows the users to split the tracks into four elements, usually bass, vocals, drums and synths, so they can control each one independently.

The users will be able to add effects to individual elements, mix specific parts of different tracks together and get instant access to a cappella or instrumental versions of tracks.

Stem tracks play on any software player that supports MP4 formats, making them iTunes-compatible as well.

Stems is available on music stores Beatport and Traxsource.
