Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said Islamabad and New Delhi have wasted 'massive resources' on the nuclear arms race, which could have been used for economic well-being of the citizens.

The statement comes one day ahead the landmark meet between the two premiers of the South Asian rival nations on the sidelines of the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations.

Sharif said he was looking forward to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to mark a new beginning in the strained relationship between the two nations, Dawn News reports.

Meanwhile, he also clarified that the dialogue should not be taken as a tool of appeasement.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan and India could prosper together by establishing peace and mutual cooperation.
