The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday left the third front which included the Samajwadi Party (SP), NCP and the National People's Party (NPP), accusing Mulayam Singh of favouring the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"The comment made by Mulayam Singh was unfortunate, it indicates that he supports BJP and we won't like to remain in an alliance that supports the BJP and the communal forces," NCP leader Tariq Anwar told ANI.

"NCP would be contesting the polls in Bihar alone on 45 seats," he added.

Mulayam has earlier said that the situation in Bihar was in favour of the BJP, stunning many political watchers.

The Samajwadi Party has earlier announced that it would contest the Bihar polls under the banner of the Samajwadi Janata Dal-Democratic.
