Nationalist Communist Party (NCP) spokesperson Nawab Malik on Monday said that the Mahanagar Palika had misinterpreted the Bombay High Court order on the meat sale issued in 2004.

"Court circular was regarding the slaughtering of animals. The Mahanagar Palika in Maharashtra should understand the court order correctly," Malik told ANI.

Earlier, the Bombay High Court had stayed the ban on sale of meat on September 17, which was in place in accordance to a circular issued by the state government on September 7, owing to the Jain festival of Paryushan and the abattoir will remain shut on that day.

According to the reports, the court said that there was no consistency with regard to implementing the ban on sale by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation which according to the records produced by the corporation showed that the ban had only been implemented since 2013.
