National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Mamta Sharma on Tuesday expressed her anguish over the rising cases of crimes against women occurring in Mumbai.
"This is quite an unfortunate incident, that in a city like Mumbai, which is an industrial estate itself, is witnessing such molestation cases. I will seek an ATRC from the Mumbai Police to know whether they have taken stringent action against the culprits or not. I will be writing a letter to the Maharashtra chief minister seeking an answer pertaining to this issue and ask him to beef up security as these incidents doesn't bode well for the city," the NCW chairperson said.
"I am telling you from my experience itself that Mumbai, which hosts the film industry, used to be considered as safe, but with these rising incidents happening, it doesn't look to be same anymore," Sharma added.
Police on Monday arrested four men for allegedly molesting a woman journalist working with a news channel and assaulting a cameraman who was accompanying her.
The incident happened on Monday in suburban Andheri when the journalist and the cameraman were returning in their office vehicle from a shoot and the accused had allegedly blocked the road.
