National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Mamta Sharma on Wednesday demanded an apology from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas for his remarks on nurses from Kerala during a stage show.

"He should definitely apologise, and if he is saying that he had written this poem earlier, then too he should apologise. Even today a woman's honour is same like it was around 3000 years ago. The kind of comments that he has made against the Kerala nurses are wrong and the poem is wrong in totality," she said.

President of Women Congress Shobha Oza, echoing similar sentiments, said that such statements indicate the kind of person he is.

"Kumar Vishwas should apologise for his dishonourable statement. Kerala nurses are known for their services and commitment in the whole world and the whole hospital industry acknowledges their contribution and commitment. Therefore the kind of statement he has made is clearly indicative of the kind of person Vishwas is," she said.

Meanwhile, nurses of the Florence nightingale association and Karnataka nurse forum staged a protest in Bangalore against the remark made by Vishwas, demanding an immediate apology from him.

A Youtube clip of Kumar Vishwas that has gone viral, shows him making racial remarks on Kerala nurses.
