New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chairman Jalaj Shrivastava on Thursday inaugurated the heritage building of the N.P. Boys Senior Secondary School at Mandir Marg here after completition of its restoration and upgrade at a simple function.
Shrivastava informed "It was felt during an inspection that the school building requires a comprehensive restoration of interior and exterior spaces as well as holistic electrical and plumbing in keeping with the historic ambience of the heritage building of the school."
This project enables the restoration of the internal and exterior areas, structural repairs and structural strengthening by the retrofitting method of the whole building.
"The work was carried out in parts and completed in 22 months time at an approximate cost of Rs.8.36 crore," Shrivastava said.
The N.P. Boys School was originally designed as Municipal Boys High School on Mandir Marg, which is part of the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Municipal Council.
Designed by Russel, chief architect of the CPWD in 1918, the school was completed in 1931. The building of the N.P. Boys Senior Secondary School is a striking composition with a monumental height of steps leading into its handsome neo-classical facade.
N.P. Boys Sr. Sec. School and its surrounding building/structure has survived the hazards of time and provided a tangible link between the past and present. It is architecturally significant, carries strong cultural overtones and a part of the city's heritage.
