Nearly 100 cloth shops and factories were gutted in a devastating fire that swept through a tin-shed market in Narayanganj city today.
Momtaz Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, was quoted as saying that the fire started around 4 a.m. and had engulfed the entire Shuhrawardi Market, burning down over 100 shops and factories.
The Daily Star further quoted him as saying that the fire might have been caused by an electric short circuit, for which four fire-fighting units from Dhaka and Narayanganj stations were rushed to put out the blaze after two and a half hours of frantic effort.
