The U.S. state of Nebraska has reportedly abolished the death penalty after its unicameral legislature passed the measure 30 to 19 and overrode Governor Pete Ricketts' earlier veto.
The move was backed by a coalition of conservatives who oppose execution as a form of punishment, the BBC reported.
Nebraska, which witnessed its last execution in 1997, has become the 19th state in the country to impose a ban on the death penalty.
The U.S. federal district of Washington DC also enforces the ban.
