Ambition and transition is all set to make India a global leader in the manufacturing sector, said Ajay Shankar, Member Secretary, NMCC, Government of India.
"We need to change our traditional perception and create a culture of excellence with a motive to set a trend to success to be a global leader," he emphasised while addressing the CII's 5th Lean Six Sigma Summit here today.
"We need transformation in the manufacturing sector, and, it is within our grasp. Quality and business excellence is a necessity and need to be recognized at present. Further, we need to encourage talent to assure best day ahead in the manufacturing sector," he added.
Prateek Garg, Chairman, CII Western UP, said Lean Six Sigma paving the way for achieving the benchmark as organizations accelerating the operational activity and performance of their business, extensively exploring new methods and technique to upscale productivity.
He mentioned that requirement for continual improvement in terms of quality of services, products, business excellence need to be focused on customer satisfaction overall. Innovation has become cynosure in all industries and the demand for new technologies to gain optimum results need to focus on operational excellence.
He further said that Lean Six Sigma is an access to meet the expectation of customers, investors, strong theme or vision of the organisation, responding effectively and efficiently to new circumstances and evaluating overall business results.
Presenting the theme of the summit, Narersh T Raisinghani, CEO and Executive Director, BMGI -Knowledge Partner of the summit, said transformation can be driven and Lean Six Sigma is powerful technique if we implement it correctly.
Raisinghani said that lean six Sigma helps to link corporate goals to key projects includes linking projects to business goals, increase margin overall delivering and creating transformation.
He also mentioned Lean Six Sigma helps to unlock potential delivering results creates a culture of excellence in an orgnaisation.
Embed transformation into the practioners and not just practitioners in to the transformation said by Raisinghani.
He opined that we need to create an enabling leadership architecture to strengthen the leadership that can be possible by deploying lean six sigma.
Speaking on occasion, I.V.Rao, Director, Maruti Automotive Centre of Excellence, said that lean focuses on dramatically improvement flow in the value stream and eliminate waste whereas six sigma focuses on eliminating defects.
Rao mentioned that lean six sigma focuses on supplier and customer relationship. He mentioned that lean has been a culture in Maruti has direct and positive impact on cost, quality and customer satisfaction.
Taking a dig at present scenario of the manufacturing sector, Rao said that contribution of manufacturing to Indian GDP is only 16 per cent, and we need to push the growth to emerge as the destination of choice in the world.
In his concluding remarks, K.N. Rattan, Former Executive Director, Shriram Pistons and Rings Ltd., said that we need to focus on business results.
Rattan opined to develop existing capabilities to generate more profits with sincere efforts and successful executions of strategy and planning. He also said that lean six sigma helps to make remarkable and sustained improvements in operational excellence.
The summit was well attended by more than 150 participants from various sector with presence of eminent speakers from companies like ITC, Oracle Australia, Amtek, Cognizant, Xerox India and many more.
