A new app for iOS devices provides users with a new way to browse their friends' Instagram images by turning them into filmstrip of thumbnails.

Negatives, a free app for iPhone and iPad, organises a each of a user's friend's Instagram photos into a filmstrip and the friends are grouped in a chronological fashion.

According to Cnet, a friend who has posted most recently would feature at the top of the list and users can swipe on each filmstrip to view the thumbnails and tapping on any one would zoom it to its full size.

While viewing an expanded photo, one can swipe sideways to go to the next photos and the poster's comments would appear above the photo, while likes and other comments show below.

Users can read comments on a photo by tapping on the comment icon but cannot post their own comment, and clicking on a hashtag, if available on the photo, would lead to a filmstrip of photos with that hashtag.

The search button at the top of the app's homepage lets a user search only for usernames and not by keyword or hashtag.

The report added that the inability for someone to add their comment at a photo is because of restrictions Instagram places on its API.
