British star Idris Elba, who will be portraying Nelson Mandela in an upcoming biopic, has revealed that the movie will show the anti-apartheid campaigner's dark side too.
Speaking at the premiere of 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom' at the Toronto Film Festival, the 'Luther' actor said that it was important to show both sides of his character, the good and the bad, the BBC reported.
Elba, 41, explained that he didn't want to deface Mandela in any way, but he also didn't want to portray him in a way that wasn't honest.
He continued saying that everybody has seen and loved the saintly Mandela, but it was important to take the audience on a journey prior to that and understand who he was.
Early scenes in Justin Chadwick's film, which also stars Naomie Harris as the former South African president's second wife Winnie, show Mandela as a womaniser, who was violent to his first wife Evelyn.
