A Nepalese mountaineer has set off on a journey to scale Mount Everest for a third time in order to pay homage to former Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes by taking the late batsman's bat and jersey to the pinnacle.
Hughes passed away in November after being struck in the neck by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match at Sydney Cricket Ground, which resulted in a massive outpouring of grief.
Earlier this month, Mountaineer Churim Sherpa, who holds the record of climbing Everest twice in a single season, had been entrusted with the responsibility of carrying the bat.
Churim said that climbing Sagarmatha-Nepali name for Everest- is a big challenge and risky in itself, adding that she would try hard to reach the bat and jerseys to the top, Sport24 reported.
Chhurim is expected to carry the items to the top and back to Kathmandu, where they will be placed at the Australian embassy.
