External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government took great initiatives to mend ties with Nepal, adding that India was the first nation to offer humanitarian support to Nepal after devastating earthquakes in April-May.

"Then, India acted like an elder brother, and not like a big brother," Swaraj said in the Rajya Sabha.

She said India was ready to airlift essential supplies, including medicines, to Nepal during the blockade.

"We even wrote to the Nepalese Prime Minister, asking him for the list of medicines they needed, but never got any reply," she added.

Meanwhile, she also claimed that the new Constitution of Nepal did not incorporate rights granted to Madheshis by the interim Constitution.
