Nepal to hold first federal parliament meeting on March 5

With the successful holding of elections for local bodies, provincial parliament, central parliament and the Upper House, the first federal parliamentary meeting of Nepal has been fixed for March 5.

A statement from the office of President Bidhya Devi Bhandari said on Monday that the meeting of the federal parliament would take place on March 5 from 4 p.m. local time.

"As of today's date 2074, Falgun 7 (19th Feb. 2018), Monday President Bidhya Devi Bhandari upon receiving the recommendation from the Prime Minister as per the Article 93 (1) has called for the federal parliamentary meeting on 2074, 21st of Falgun (2018, 5th March) for 4 PM to commence at the International Convention Center, New Baneshwor," Kul Prasad Chudal, spokesperson for the Office of the President of Nepal said.

 

It is the first time that Nepal is holding it's federal parliamentary meeting, a step towards the implementation of the constitution which was adopted in 2015 with wide spread protest and the bloodshed over the Southern Plain of the Himalayan Nation.

Nepal which is practicing a new form of governance held the election for the House of Representatives on November 26 and December 7. About 275 members have been elected to the federal parliament.
