A row between the United States and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has deepened further as the Israeli leader accused America of "giving up" on trying to stop Iran from procuring nuclear weapons, a report said.

The U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry questioned Netanyahu's judgement on the issue, reported the BBC.

The statement came as Republicans invited Netanyahu to address the U.S. Congress next week, angering Democrats.

A White House spokesman warned against reducing U.S.-Israeli relations to a political issue.

U.S. National Security Adviser Susan Rice had earlier said that Netanyahu's visit was "destructive to the fabric of the relationship".
