Former South Africa coach Gary Kirsten has said that coaching an Indian Premier League (IPL) team at this stage of his coaching career is the 'perfect thing' for him and his family.
According to Sport24, Kirsten, who was unveiled on Tuesday as head coach of IPL side Delhi Daredevils, had coached India between 2008 and 2011, before taking charge of South Africa for two years.
The report also said that former South African opener resigned as the Proteas coach in May this year, in an attempt to spend more time with his family.
Stating that the IPL is a perfect thing to have happened considering his commitments to his family, Kirsten, who will work with fellow South African Eric Simons in the Daredevils, said that his family is his priority and so he is fine with devoting three months a year to cricket.
The report mentioned that Simons was part of Kirsten's management team when India won the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
According to Kirsten, he found GMR Group, the owners of the Daredevils, to be 'good people' after having discussions with them, adding that having Simons around will help him as they both went back a long way and complement each other really well.
