The new England football kit has been revealed and was instantly compared with West Germany's outfit in the 1960s and 70s by some fans.

The kit was sponsored by 'Nike', who opted for a simple design, with a rounded collar and navy badge, Sky News reported.

Fans took to social media to express their displeasure at the kit's likeness to England's great rivals.

One user wrote: "The new England kit is absolutely disgusting, thought we were England not Germany."

Another posted: "Very German! We are white and red!"

Meanwhile, former England striker Gary Lineker joked: "Smart move by @FA and @nikefootball to go slightly German with the strip. If you can't beat 'em ..."

The first look of the shirt was tweeted by England and Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.
