A New Hampshire police chief, who used a racial slur to refer to the US president Barack Obama, has reportedly refused to apologize, despite calls for his resignation.

According to Politico, Robert Copeland, 82, confirmed in an email to fellow police commissioners that he used the "N-word" in describing Obama following a complaint submitted in March by a resident of Wolfeboro.

The complaint was logged by a resident who claimed that she overheard Copeland using the racial slur in a local restaurant while referring to Obama.

Copeland, however, refused to apologize for the same saying that he used the 'N' word in reference to the current occupant of the Whitehouse, adding that for this he would not apologize as Obama met and exceeded his criteria for such.
