India's new High Commissioner to Pakistan, T.C.A. Raghavan, on Monday said that it would be his endeavour to take bilateral relations between the two countries forward during his posting.
"There is change in environment in Pakistan and certainly that is very important. The last few years have shown that the potential exists when there are good relations between India and Pakistan," he told media at the airport here.
"At the same time, there are number of challenges and threats which are pause to bilateral relations, and my effort will be to move forward on all of these issues," he added.
Raghavan, who was accompanied by his wife, arrived at Guru Ram Das International Airport in Amritsar, on his way to Islamabad.
A 1982-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Raghavan, who had earlier served as Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad ten years ago, replaces Sharat Sabharwal, who has already returned to India from Islamabad.
With a new government formed in Pakistan under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, India and Pakistan are moving ahead on various issues to decrease the distance between the two rivals.
Prior to appointment, Raghavan was India's High Commissioner to Singapore and Joint Secretary of the Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran (PAI) Divison in the Ministry of External Affairs.
