Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Dr. Suresh Prabhu has declared that the new Integrated Logistics and Air Cargo Policy would be announced 'very soon' in which every minute detail pertaining to logistics and cargo would be addressed to the best of the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
Without specifying a timeframe for the declaration of the proposed policy, the Minister emphasised that with Integrated Logistics and Air Cargo Policy in place, the solutions to critical issues relating to agriculture and manufacturing output and their supplies including exports would be sufficiently explored through the possibilities of making improvement in such an Integrated Policy still exist even in future.
Inaugurating the 4th Ph.D. Air Cargo Summit-2018 under the aegis of Ph.D. Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Prabhu explained that a specific department of logistics has been created in the Department of Commerce which is finalising the nitty-gritty of logistics dimensions as also cargo movement with the necessary consultation process.
The government is of the view that the basic objective on which the logistics and cargo policy is being put in place is based on the premise that its context is important and significant rather than text because both logistics and cargo are one of the biggest growth driven sector in India after services. Therefore, all efforts of the policymakers are going in the direction so that following announcement of the policy, the growth of agriculture, manufacturing multiply exponentially with air cargo movement picking up the anticipated movement with affordable tariff structure, indicated the Minister.
In the meanwhile, Dr. Prabhu asked the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry to submit its suggestions and feedback expeditiously to the government so that these could be inserted in the proposed Logistics and Air Cargo Policy. He urged the industry association to come out with idea that is workable and can be implemented within the established structure of the Government of India.
In his welcome remarks, President, PHDCCI, Mr. Rajeev Talwar appreciated the growth that has happened in the multiplier terms in the entire Indian economy in the last few decades given the compulsions of the government and largely acknowledged the policy measures of the government of the day. He said that these would further propel the economy and India would fast inch up its pace of growth in all sectors particularly that of civil aviation and the like.
