Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull delivering his revamped Cabinet line-up in Canberra said the new ministry included greater representation by the National Party.

While Christopher Pyne has been given the role of Minister for Defence Industry, Senator Fiona Nash will add local government to her existing role, reports news.com.au.

Northern Australia Minister Matt Canavan has been promoted to the Cabinet and Environment Minister Greg Hunt has been given the Innovation portfolio.

Meanwhile, former prime minister Kevin Rudd has asked the Turnbull Government to endorse his bid for the United Nations top job.

The new Cabinet will now consider whether to support Rudd's candidacy for the UN's top job or not.

United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-Moon's term expires at the end of this year and his successor will most likely take office on January 1, 2017.
