Criticizing the new sanctions imposed on Iran by the United States, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has reportedly termed it an "ugly move" that will deepen distrust between the two countries.
Speaking at a news conference broadcast on state TV, Rouhani said that they are in conflict with the spirit of the ongoing talks but added that Iran will continue nuclear talks with the P5+1 countries to reach a final agreement on its nuclear programme, reported the BBC.
Pentagon announced new sanctions on firms and individuals on Friday. It said that the sanctions were targeted against those who were suspected of evading the previous sanctions or were supporting the country's nuclear programme or terrorism.
Iran's nuclear programme has been under scrutiny by the global powers, who have alleged that the country is seeking atomic weapons. Iran however, has denied the claim saying that it is enriching uranium for use in nuclear power stations and for medical purposes.
Negotiations to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions in exchange for ending sanctions began in February but the P5+1 countries and Iran have failed to reach an agreement so far. They have now extended the talks till November 24.
