New York has sued American business tycoon Donald Trump for 40 million dollars, alleging that his investment school engaged in illegal practices.

Prosecutors said the private Trump University had no licence and misled students into taking courses claiming to teach investment tricks.

According to the BBC, more than 5,000 students allegedly paid over 40 million dollars to get admission into the courses.

In a tweet, Trump said that New York State's attorney general was 'trying to extort him with a civil law suit.

The tweet linked to a website saying that Trump University had a 98-percent approval rating.

In 2011, it changed its name to Trump Entrepreneur Initiative, but has led to people complaints and some civil lawsuits, saying that the school did not deliver what was promised to participants, the report added.
