New Zealand defeated India by 40 runs in the second T20I to level the three-match series 1-1 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Saturday.

After winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat and set the target of 196/2 in 20 overs, courtesy Munro's unbeaten century, 109 in 58 balls.

India's chase began with a disastrous start as it openers returned to dug-out at the end of the second over, with 11 on the board.

At 67/4, wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni took the pitch and along with the skipper, Virat Kohli, steadied the ship. Both took the score to 123 when Kohli was caught behind on Mitchell Santner's ball.

Dhoni tried to redeem the innings, but with increasing asking rate it became seemingly impossible and the chase ended at 156/7.

The two teams will now lock horns in Thiruvananthapuram.
