Soon after being assigned the top job at Microsoft, CEO Satya Nadella promised a 'mobile-first, cloud-first' strategy, an extension of outgoing chief Steve Ballmer's 'devices and services' strategy.

In a question-and-answer session with Susan Hauser, who leads Microsoft's enterprise sales team, Nadella reiterated what he wrote in his letter to all employees on the first day of his job- call on innovation.

According to PC World, the only detail Nadella shared about the next course of action as the new chief was blending of Microsoft's communications, productivity and social software and services together into a more cohesive whole across the personal and business spaces.

Nadella said that they have talked about how their strategy going forward is about devices and services, and quoting from his letter said that the industry doesn't respect tradition but innovation and what is going to define Microsoft is a mobile first, cloud first world.

He further said that Microsoft is aiming to build a world where industrial Internet or the Internet of everything is going to be connected to the cloud and data, which would be mediated by software, defining the intelligence of those devices.

Further elaborating his mobile-first, cloud-first strategy, Nadella explained that mobile phones would be owned by consumers, but managed by the companies they work for and Microsoft would provide both those sets of tools, the report added.
