'Doctor Who' showrunner Steven Moffat has revealed that the casting of the iconic Timelord is not gender specific.

Moffat said that he is reasonably confident that there would be a female Doctor Who in the series someday, Metro.co.uk reported.

The 51-year-old television writer said that the fans argue that it is not about casting "a man" in the series, let alone a female, but it is about casting "a particular man" as the Doctor.

Moffat said that it is about casting someone who will set the role on fire and currently it is Peter Capaldi who would do that.

He asserted that it was not about being bias towards a particular gender.
