Former opener Mark Waugh has claimed that next year's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand will be pivotal to the future of the 50-over game.

Waugh, who will officially inducted in Australian Cricket Hall of Fame at Monday's Allan Border Medal in Sydney, said that captains must attack in one-day cricket to keep it relevant in the face of the Twenty20 explosion.

He said T20 Cricket is here to stay, it's entertaining, it's short, and it is definitely going to be popular for a long time.

Waugh said the 50-over World Cup is a big event going to be held in Australia and New Zealand and the Australians, the way they're playing, will revitalise one-day cricket, News.com.au reports.
