The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday directed the authorities to challan the vehicles parked on roads and seal auto repair shops in an East Delhi residential area.
The NGT had earlier pulled up Public Works Department (PWD) for chopping 40 trees for widening of a road at Rao Tula Ram Marg here.
The NGT, in recent times, has taken several measures for improving the ambient air quality of the national capital.
Acting tough to curb pollution, the NGT had last month directed all commercial vehicles, including trucks, entering Delhi to pay environmental compensation charge in addition to the toll tax.
The green panel ordered that the compensation would be payable at the rates of Rs. 700 for two-axle vehicles, Rs 1,000 for three-axle and Rs 500 for four-axle and above.
The Tribunal Bench giving this order added that the collected amount would be used for improving the ambient air quality of the national capital.
