NHRC issues notice to Delhi government over a boy drowning in Metro construction site pit

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a student of eighth class drowned while four others were rescued from a water pit made near a Metro construction site in Karkardooma, East Delhi this year on September 6 .

The locals alleged that the Metro Administration had left open pits which resulted in such incidents.

Reportedly, the boy, identified as Kartik, aged 15 years, was the resident of Arya Nagar Colony in Karkardooma.

He was returning home from the Sarvodaya School in the evening when he along with his friends decided to take a dip in the pit when this incident happened.

 

Kartik was rushed to Dr. Hedgewar Hospital in a critical condition where he was declared brought dead.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim child.

Accordingly, a notice has been issued to the Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi calling for a factual report within two weeks.
