The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a minor girl, a resident of Shastri Park in East Delhi, was kidnapped and forced to marry.
It has issued a notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East), to explain why the police only registered a case of kidnapping but took no action against the kidnappers.
It also sought an explanation as why the accused was continuing to threaten the family of the victim.
According to the May 29 media report, the accused kidnapped the minor girl while she was going to school.
The accused threatened the father of the victim of dire consequences, when tried to free his daughter.
The local police did not take any action even after a month of registration of an FIR for kidnapping on the complaint of the father of the victim.
