The National Human Rights Commission on Friday took suo motu cognizance of a media report that a woman delivered a baby in a park of the Civil Hospital in Panipat.
On the April 16, instead of providing treatment to the woman at an advance stage of labour, the hospital had referred her to PGI, Khanpur.
The Commission observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human right to health of the victim mother and child and issued notice to the Haryana Government's Health Department Secretary and has asked for a report within two weeks.
Reportedly, the victim woman, who was four months pregnant, suffered from labour pain on the morning of the April 16 and was taken to Primary Health Centre but on account of non-availability of doctor there, she was brought to the Civil Hospital. According to the doctor at the hospital, the woman was found to be anaemic and the hospital did not have any blood unit. Therefore, she was referred to PGI, Khanpur.
