Compton, who teamed up with Hughes for Western Suburbs cricket club in Sydney, believes that Australian batsman was fearless and had a massive effect on him as he was always hungry for runs. He further said the biggest thing about Hughes is the fact that he probably didn't realize the impact he had on his (Compton's) career, News.com.au reported.

Considering Hughes as an absolute legend, he said that he felt more confident to bat as Hughes allowed him to express himself. According to him, he was passionate about Hughes turning into a very good Test cricketer as he was a run machine.

Commenting on the Hughes' tragedy, he said that it was spine chilling when he saw him falling to the ground as they are all part of a one big family.
