Nike has reportedly fired the majority of the team responsible for the development of its FuelBand fitness tracker this week.

According to Cnet, out of the 70 employees in the team, about 70 percent to 80 percent or as many as 55 people were let go, an unnamed person revealed.

Nike spokesman Brian Strong said in an email that as a fast-paced, global business, the company continually aligns resources with business priorities.

He added that as Digital Sport priorities evolve, the company expects to make changes within the team, and there will be a small number of layoffs.

However, he refused to comment on individual employment matters, the report added.
