Lauding the efforts of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in introducing death penalty to rapists of minor girls, the December 16 gang-rape victim Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi on Monday stated that the law should be enforced immediately.
Speaking to ANI here, Asha stressed on the importance of implementing this law in all states, rather than just Madhya Pradesh.
"This is long-overdue. This should be introduced in other states as well. It is traumatic to see what goes through a rape victim's mind as well as the impact of the incident on a victim's family," she said.
She further extended her support and appreciated Chauhan, stating that many families and victims like her are struggling to get justice and that this motion should get tabled and passed in the parliament at the earliest possible.
Earlier last week, Chauhan had proposed legislation to sanction death penalties to those who rape minor girls in Madhya Pradesh.
The proposal is said to be tabled during the monsoon session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly. After being passed by the assembly, the legislation will subsequently be sent to President Pranab Mukherjee for his consent.
