The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has said there is no change in rules regarding the process of updating marital status in Indian passports.

A press release issued by the embassy said applicants can update or change personal information, including marital status, after marriage or divorce in their passports by applying for inclusion or deletion of spouse's name.

According to Gulf News, the embassy said applicants can update their information by submitting duly attested copies of the marriage certificate or divorce decree issued by the Indian authorities at centres of BLS International, outsourced service providers of the Indian Embassy and Consulate.

The embassy also said if any applicant chose to update change in marital status at the time of re-issue of passport after expiry of its validity, they can also do it by submitting duly attested copies of the marriage certificate or divorce decree by the Indian authorities concerned along with the application for re-issue of passports, the report said.

The embassy, in the press release, said Indian nationals are advised to keep updated personal information, including marital status, in their passports to avoid any inconvenience.
