Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh said on Sunday that no film was bigger than culture, while speaking on 'Padmavati'.

Speaking to ANI, Amar Singh said, "If there is no disputed fact in the movie, then I will remain quite. But, if the facts are distorted then I will also oppose the movie because no film is bigger than culture."

However, Singh chose to refrain from commenting anything further on the Sanjay Bhansali's film.

"Without watching the movie, I do not want to comment anything about it," he said

The former SP leader even suggested Bhansali to show the film to the representatives of Rajput community.

Earlier in the day, the makers of the period drama postponed the release of the movie. The movie was earlier scheduled to hit the screens on December 1.

'Padmavati', starring actors Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, is yet to receive a clearance from the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The movie, based on the legend of Rani Padmini, a Hindu Rajput queen, mentioned in Padmavat, an Avadhi poem written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540, had been facing protests from various groups, including Rajput Karni Sena for allegedly tampering historical facts.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Saturday wrote a letter to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani requesting her to defer the release of the film.
